The Japanese have known for years that spending mindful time in the woods is beneficial for body and soul.
During our time spent in nature under the canopy of trees we shall be carrying out some gentle movement and stretches to help align the body and restore imbalances, reducing any stiffness, aches and pains the body may be feeling.
This time in nature – also known as forest bathing – is an opportunity for you to take time out, slow down and connect with nature.
There are many health benefits of spending time in nature including lowering blood pressure, lower cortisol (stress hormone) levels and improve concentration and memory. A chemical released by trees and plants, called phytoncides, boosts the immune system. A 2018 UK study found that exposure to trees, the sky and birdsong improved mental wellbeing. The benefits were still evident several hours after the exposure.
Forest bathing helps you to savour the sounds, smells and sights of nature and letting the forest in.
This mini retreat can support you to bring your attention in the present moment, and give your body and mind a chance to slow down. We move very slowly, touching the trees, looking at colours and patterns, and breathing deeply.
We shall end up lying down under trees and looking up through the branches as I guide you through a relaxation exercise.
If you would like two hours to de-compress, ready for the holidays, connect with your body, release tension, relax your body and mind and restore some balance, then this is the perfect time out for you!
We will be based in the woodlands of The Outside Studios private garden space.
All you need is a yoga mat and a bottle of water, and I’ll take care of the rest.
We shall move, stretch, breath deeply and connect to nature and finish with some forest bathing relaxation.
You don’t have to be a yogi, flexible or particularly fit to enjoy this retreat. The moves will be fun and there’s no expectation for you to do anything you are not comfortable with, there will be options that should suit everyone.
You should however, be happy to move outdoors and be able to lay down on a mat for the relaxation – or you can prop yourself up against a tree.
