What is Myofascial Release?

Using hands and assisted tool to target restrictions in the connective tissue that can cause postural problems and pain.

Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue (known as Fascia*) that is restricted to eliminate pain and restore motion.

How does Myofascial Release work?

There is an essential time element with each area applied that involves working with the stuck fibres of the fascia with a gentle continued pressure to allow the fascia to elongate.

Myofascial Release is a form of bodywork that is manipulative in nature and seeks to rebalance the body by releasing tension in the fascia (connective tissue).

Long, stretching strokes are utilised to release muscular tension. Myofascial Release is a manual therapy technique that is utilised to help relieve pain and tension that is due to injury or stress.

It involves releasing and unwinding the fascia that surrounds each muscle and interconnects all of the other internal parts of the body.

This tissue layer, which connects every muscle, tendon, ligament, bone, and organ in our bodies, can store memories of physical trauma.

Releasing these restrictions allows us to discharge recurring emotional as well as physical pain. Sessions can include craniosacral work, stretching techniques, and deep touch.

Trauma, inflammatory responses and surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that do not show up in many of the standard tests (X-rays, CAT scans, etc.)

How is a Myofascial Release Treatment carried out?

Each Myofascial Release Treatment session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.

What areas of the body can especially be helped with Myofascial Release?

This is a fantastic treatment for issues with back, shoulder neck or knee pain.
